the reason i haven't said much lately...is that there hasn't been anything to say, really.

well, there have been a rash of break-ins at work...let me explain. the small company i work for manages the building we occupy, which contains about 15 office suites that are leased out. starting about 3 weeks ago, tenants were reporting that things had gome missing from their offices without any appearance of forced entry. of course, we assumed that whoever was breaking in had keys, so we had the locks changed on all the building's exterior doors.

the next day, we arrived to find that a brick had been thrown through one of the front windows, right next to the building's main entrance. so we ordered a temporary night security guard and had the window replaced. after a week of no suspicious activity, the security service was canceled. a few days later, a couple of tenants reported missing objects, including one that had previously had things stolen. so we had those locks changed.

yesterday morning, we noticed that the keys to one of the suites (the spare keys we keep to each suite) was missing from where we keep them in hooks on the wall in Brian's (no, not that Brian) office.so we had the locks changed on that suite, and on our suite. this morning, the keys to another suite were missing. so we had those locks changed, and a little light went on. whoever was breaking in was stealing one set of keys at a time, using them (maybe duplicating them, maybe not) and replacing them before doing the same with another set.

so we've ordered a lockbox to keep our keys in, in place of the oh-so-secure pegboard on the wall. what happens next remains to be seen, as we don't know how many keys they've managed to duplicate, and they could possibly have reduplicated the keys that we've had changed...

and yes, that's the most interesting thing going on in my life right now.

I actually do find that interesting that someone would go to that much trouble to take stuff.. I suppose if one's desperate enough...

I wish I had something as interesting as that to write about.

Where do you keep the key to the lockbox?

the lockbox only arrived today and hasn't been installed yet. i'm sure that i, as the secretary of the guy in charge of the keys, will get a briefing on Monday.
