the email address i've had since high school is full of spam; it gets upwards of 30 spam emails per day, and no amount of filtering in Outlook can seem to cut through it very well. but i don't want to get rid of this account, because it is the only email address lots of people have for me, including most of my family. granted, most people i actually want to email me, i don't give them that address anymore because it's likely i might be blindly deleting spam and accidentally delete their message. i've been considering temporarily setting up a filter to automatically delete all mail from that account, with an emailed autoresponse to remove the address from lists, but with my luck the few actual people that do email me there will get the wrong impression, and the spammers won't even read it. the other option (since it's a yahoo account) is to temporarily disable the mail service to the account, but with my luck i'd forget to turn it back on and leave some friends with whom i have intermittent contact only through this email address with no means with which to contact me.

so...any advice?

Try really looking at your e-mail messages for a short time and see if anyone other than spammers sends you a message. If they do, and there are people that you know of who will e-mail you anytime soon, send them a message saying that you have gotten another e-mail account. Make an auto response saying so, and hopefully people will catch on.

There is still a chance that some friends or possible contactors will be lost, but it's better than just leaving it.

it is the primary email address at which i receive correspondence from members of my family. other than that most of my friends have one of my other email addresses, or could find other ways of contacting me. i just worry...

I've had to change my e-mail address many times, and each time I have that worry. But if you simply can't put up with all that spam, then there's simply nothing else that you can do. Hey, others might have better advice than myself. Punch it out of them if you have to.

If I remember correctly, people you respond to using Outlook end up in an address book? Just e-mail those people in the book, because they're the people you talk to. And if there's someone you know that's missing from there, try and sort through your e-mails to find his/her address.
