Yeah, it's about Cowboy Bebop, but it really does have relevance. Just bear with me.

Finally watching this show again, I'm seeing things I never saw before. As in, entire episodes that I don't remember seeing a single snippet of before. Part of the reason for this is that during its first run (on Toonami Midnight Run on Cartoon Network in 2001), I had just seen and loved Outlaw Star and really wasn't in the mood for yet another show about bounty hunter cowboy-types in space. The other part of the reason for this is that at the time I was working until right when it aired, so even if I went home as quickly as possible, I'd miss at least 10 minutes, so more often than not I'd just not watch. I think I saw maybe half of the episodes in their entirety in the first run.

By the time the second run came around, Ryan was living with me and loved the show, and threw a fit if I wanted to watch something else on my own TV during Bebop's timeslot. So I got in the habit of leaving, because that time just after coming home from work I preferred to reserve for finishing up my homework for the next day, rather than watching a TV show I was only marginally interested in. Though it should have been a clue, I suppose, that nothing I did could drag Ryan away from the TV when Bebop was on.

Still, most of the shows I remember having seen as background noise, or as having watched them because I had nothing better to do. But last night I saw episode 11, "Toys in the Attic", for the first time. I didn't recognize a single frame, and that's the real tragedy, because if I'd seen this episode the first time around, it would have made me rethink my apathy towards the series a lot longer before I did (in fact, it took a combination of the movie and the Shooting Star manga to get me to fall in love with this the way I should have been in love with it from the beginning). Seriously awesome. It's changed my life. Really. Now excuse me while I go clean out the fridge.

I don't know how you lived the past 4 years without that episode in your life!! It's mind-boggling!
