non solum memento mori, memento vivere sed etiam
In Texas, there is a narrow window of 2-3 weeks in the spring and in the fall in which it is safe to be exposed to outdoor air for more than 5 minutes without being either covered in insect bites or nearly fainting from heat stroke. That time has now officially ended. I have one mosquito bite on each elbow bone, 2 mosquito bites just above my right elbow, and about 10 chigger bites on my feet and ankles.

When I was in middle school, and for most of high school, I always wore tight pants. Not just tight, the kind you have to be poured into, you have to lie down in order to fasten, and have to be removed in much the same way as you would peel a banana. Of course, when these are the only sort of pants you own, you have to wear shorts in the summer, because your body swells with the humidity if you're outside for any length of time at all, and any sweat at all increases your pants-removal difficulty by a factor of at least 10. I notice that when I moved to Arizona, my wardrobe quickly moved away from tight-fitting clothes to things that left some airspace between my skin and the clothing, because it was easier to stay cool that way. Since switching to loose-fitting pants, I haven't worn shorts at all except to the gym or something similar. This has contributed to my reluctance to shave my legs, since nobody ever sees them anyway.

No, I wasn't really going anywhere with this. I have to work tomorrow and Friday, I've got an art history test on Monday, and a presentation in art history at some point in the next couple of weeks, for which I have to write a paper and possibly organize the Powerpoint thingy, if in fact we're still doing a Powerpoint thingy. I'm always stuck in the group that doesn't communicate...

Even in tight pants, mosquitos can bite through. I know this from the 80s. Probably loose pants, too, but there's less a chance they can reach your flesh if you have space between the clothing and your butt. Nothing more annoying than a mosquito bite on the butt.

Dude, Texas mosquitoes are on steroids. I've been bitten through some really thick fabrics, even loosely worn.
