Ok I had this all written up earlier but my computer decided it was going to reboot itself, so here it is again. Sorta.

I didn't work today after all--I got a call at about 3pm yesterday saying they didn't need me after all. Fine, whatever. I probably needed the sleep more than I needed the money anyway.

Also, Christmas plans have been thwarted by my grandfather falling out of bed while the only nearby relatives were out of town. My grandmother called at about 6 to tell us that. Normally it takes her and my great-aunt and her husband to get him up when he falls, but since the latter two are in South Carolina right now, my grandmother called my dad. So my sister and I got called in turn, asking whether we preferred to have Christmas last night or early this morning instead of this afternoon as planned. My sister voted for last night because she didn't want to get up early in the morning. I voted for morning, because I live about an hour away and I was already exhausted from working all day. But after a bunch of calling back and forth, they decided to go ahead and drive the 2.5 hours to my grandparents' house last night, moving Christmas to Sunday evening, which pissed off my sister, because she's spending the midday at her boyfriend's parents' house and she didn't want to have to make another stop. I'm not thrilled about it myself, because, depending on what time they actually get back and do things, it puts me getting home late when I have to work on Monday.

My mom made a comment to me over the phone last night that you'd think scheduling would be easier since Christmas is on a weekend. But I know why it's not. We don't bloody get a day off work.

Now to go brave the crowds at Wal-Mart...

We get a day in lieu. So our week this week went (if you were working, which I wasn't, but anyway):

Sat 24th: normal day.
Sun 25th: holiday
Mon 26th: Boxing Day (Christmas Day holiday)
Tues 27th: Boxing Day holiday
Wed 28th - Sat 31st: normalish days, but large numbers of people take them off for obvious reasons!
Sun 1st: New Years Day
Mon 2nd: New Year's Day holiday.

Then we all go back to work on the third (well those that have jobs do).

This is unless you're in retail: Boxing Day sales start tomorrow, so most retail staff will be working. But they do get penalty rates.
