As I sit here knitting a sock1, it occurs to me that what I'm doing is completely impractical. This yarn2 cost me $7 (plus tax) for 50g, an amount which may or may not be enough for two whole socks, depending on how long I want them (my luck, I'll need to get a second skein). It'll probably take me around 5 hours to finish the pair. I could have taken that same $7 to Wal-Mart and bought a package of 10 pairs of socks and had change left over.

Though I suppose since I'm knitting at work, it all balances out, since I'm getting paid $8/hr to sit here. Besides, the socks at Wal-Mart aren't nearly this pretty.

1 Yes, I knit at work. When your job is basically to sit here in case somebody wants something, it gets dreadfully boring after you've played all the portable/internet games you can stand.
2Regia 4fädig Jacquardcolor 5266, which isn't actually pictured, but it's that same effect there, with different colors of stripes. Actually, the colors are somewhat similar to the 5275 (helsinki). It's got those same 3 darkest blues, but the other 2 stripes there would be olive green and mustard yellow.

I guess it all evens out since you're getting paid to do that, but, I'm thinking, buy some even cheaper socks at Ross or something, and then use the leftover money to get pokémon beanbags. But that's me. LOL

Butbut... hand knitted socks!

Man, if I was gonna sell these, they'd be $30 a pair (with this yarn), and even at that I'd only be getting around $3.25/hr in labor. But it is relatively mindless...

Well I do suppose there is the whole thing to be said about the joy of having hand-knitted socks...

If you sold them and were only really getting $3.25 an hour, it would almost be like $11.25 an hour since you're doing it whilst you're at work doing naught else. :O

True... Maybe I should just make it my policy to charge double the price of the yarn involved...

Anyone for cashmere socks? (cashmere, btw, is around $30 for a ball the size of a lemon...)

Perhaps you should... sell them on e-bay or something... hand-knitted socks! knitted with love! :O

I don't even know what cashmere feels like to be quite honest. I have to question whether its outrageously expensive pricetag is truly worth it... ¬__¬

Cashmere is really really really really soft. There might be something else special about it, but I forget what.

I think the only special thing is whatever animal it's made from isn't quite domesticated or something? Like some goat or camel or something funky? Think goat... not sure... But yeah, I think it's one of those scarcity breeds exorbitant price deals ¬__¬
