In the interest of my continued sanity, yesterday I bought some… - love like me ・ 日記
non solum memento mori, memento vivere sed etiam
気持: shhhh! I'm reading!
In the interest of my continued sanity, yesterday I bought some books. Currently nearly halfway through The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, and this book is tearing me apart. Other than the fact that the action takes place in 1960, there but for the grace of God (ironically) I might have been. And could still be, if I listened to my relatives. I hope this book has an ending I can live with, because so far I feel like an Aztec sacrifice.

The other books I've got are One Step Behind by Henning Mankell (a mystery from an author I've heard good things about but haven't tasted yet), A Gladiator Dies Only Once by Steven Saylor (a collection of nine stories fitting somewhere in the Roma Sub Rosa series of mysteries, which I absolutely adore), and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire (never heard of this before at all; it just looked interesting).

I'm not sure I can tackle that last one too soon after this first one, given the subject matter, though hopefully it doesn't hit quite as close to home as this one does. No matter what order I go in, I'll most likely have polished off this $65-worth by this time next week. Somebody remind me to go get a library card.

I keep meaning to read The Poisonwood Bible but I've not gotten to it yet. Thanks for reminding me!

I've just finished The True History of the Kelly Gang, which has piqued my interest in the early history of Victoria no end. It's fiction, btw, but all the main characters mentioned are real.

I've just finished it (yeah, I tend to plow through books like a steam engine on the weekends, not doing much eating or sleeping till I'm finished). I enjoyed it quite a bit; it might get a second read in a few months.
