I use Adobe Media Player to watch CSI and CSI Miami, because I can't get TV reception in my apartment, I'm too cheapass to pay for cable, and the CBS website episode viewer never works for me.

Adobe Media Player works great about 50% of the time. The rest of the time, it doesn't pre-load, so if your internet connection is having a bad day, you either have to deal with the stuttering or watch it later, if you pause any video about 75% of the time it starts playing again about 2 minutes later whether you've even touched your computer or not, sometimes it refuses to pause at all no matter what state the pause/play button is in, and even if you have it set not to mark episodes as watched until you've watched a certain amount, if you just open the video and watch it stutter for 30 seconds before deciding to try again later, it gets marked as watched. And don't get me started on the spontaneous restarting of videos sometimes after a commercial break about halfway through, even though the slider thingy still shows about halfway through.

On top of this, today I meant to sleep in but woke up at 7am with a headache, and I just noticed that one of my frozen pizzas is hamburger instead of pepperoni. Oh well, might as well eat that now while I'm watching the first 15 minutes of this CSI episode 15 times in an attempt to see the ending...

EDIT, 1 hour later: On my 6th watching, I finally got about 3/4 of the way thru the ep when it froze for approximately 30 seconds and then started over from the beginning again. I don't have this problem with Hulu... CBS hates me.

EDIT, 30 minutes after the last edit: after 4 more attempts to watch this episodes, neither of which got past the first 5 minutes before freezing completely, I decided to fire up IE and try the CBS website (it doesn't work at all in Firefox for me)... we'll see how it goes. So far, incredibly stuttery and awful, but at this point, I just want to see the damn ending.

EDIT, 30 minutes after the last edit: Amazingly, my first attempt at watching on the CBS website in IE managed to get me once again about 3/4 of the way thru the ep before freezing on a black screen. This is actually the worst time I've ever had trying to watch a stinking TV show.

Damn, that sucks! I hate missing the endings of episodes. Bittorrent?

I did bittorrent up until CBS started offering these shows online. I might just go back to it, because even though there's the added hassle of having to delete the file when I'm done with it, there's never any problem with playing it.

What really irritates me is that it's just this one network--okay, I don't watch any ABC shows, but NBC and FOX shows hardly ever have problems, it's just CBS. Those are the major 4 free networks, and I don't see how it happens that there's just one who can't get it right.

From what I've heard it's a common problem with CBS (the Amazing Race forums are full of people whinging about their player for starters). Not sure what it is that they're doing wrong, but they're certainly doing it consistently.
