miniskirt season opens today
気持: ugly & fat
no, not because i'm wearing one (i don't even own one).

i just saw an unusually large number of them walking around campus today. but i won't give in. i'm going to keep wearing jeans until doing so makes me faint from heat stroke. why? the first (and most important) reason is because i like jeans. i like not having to worry about whether my legs are shaved and my dry skin lotioned before going out. the second reason is my thighs. i only wear long skirts because i can't stand the sight of my thighs, and any skirt long enough to cover them that doesn't reach the floor only makes me look shorter.

besides, that, i live in Barbiedoll-land. most of the people who live here are transplanted Southern Californians, meaning they're all perfectly tanned, toned, and surgically enhanced. and tall. i am none of those things. i am only in the sun when i have to be, the only exercise i get is walking to and from class, i've never had plastic surgery, and i am short. i'm also not particularly thin. i am physically completely average. seeing all of these plastic people in miniskirts all around me does NOT make me want to join them. it in fact has the opposite effect of making me want to hide inside my jeans and tshirt and not come out again until winter.

but all too soon it will be all too hot outside to do that, and i'll have to succumb to either heat exhaustion or wearing shorts in public. i don't do miniskirts.

We're supposed to get snow all week.

Oh, I hate shorts, trousers are the only things I wear. Apparently when I was a baby my parents would put shorts on me and I'd start to cry, so I must really hate them ;)

The most I wear on my top half is a t-shirt too, so I can become a little warm in the summer ;)

i loathe and detest shorts. but when it's over 100F outside, you don't have much choice unless you don't mind fainting from the heat.

I've done that before! I prefer it to shorts! ;)

i've also done it before...but i had to be sent to the hospital because i was also severely dehydrated, and i don't have a fond recollection of the IV needles that were stuck in me.

I was dehydrated when it happened to me, but I had also not had any sort of food that day, so they made me eat a tube of sugar goo that didn't taste nice, then sign a form saying I didn't want to go to hospital.

Got to admit I'm not much of a mini-skirt person either (although I did meet Dean while wearing one) nor a shorts person. I've been fairly happy most of the summer as it's not been that hot here. My current solution (on the few days that the temp has gotten into the high 30oCs (um.. 90-100oFs)) is to wear those longer shorts (pedal pushers? Or do I have the wrong term? Hm) which cover the majority of my legs, particularly my thighs. I also do have a few long skirts, but finding shoes to wear with them has been a problem of late (must buy sandals). I would wear culottes, but being short they make me look pregnant. In fact, they make anyone under about 5'10" who's not US size 6 look pregnant.

In summer I admit there are times when I'd be happy wearing a white, light cotton burka.

And with respect to plastic people - look on the bright side, maybe they'll melt in the heat. ;-)
